Jul 5 - three strikes

One - rod suddenly pulled down, fish gone but still have tackle.  Two - rod pulled down a little, reel in an 8" pike.  Three - rod pulled down, fish runs with line for a bit, reel it in.  It, in this case, turns out to be a huge bunch of weeds.  I know for sure that it wasn't the weeds that ran with the line.  Dang !

Oh well, that was my morning fishing.

Before noon, I headed to Arnstein, bike in the car.  Leaving the car with Aimee (Jeff's wife), I headed west into a fairly strong headwind, getting as far as the bottom on the hill west of Laing Road.  That was 20 miles, took 1:45.  Turning around and heading back with the wind, I was back in Arnstein at 3pm, just over 1 hour later.  Jeff was still working on the car -- the hub had been frozen to the driveshaft -- but he was starting to put things back together.  I had him rotate the tires front to back while it was up.  By 3:30 I was on my way, no noise from that front wheel anymore.

When I got home, Sandy and Marda were out.  I guessed correctly that they'd gone to the French River Trading Post.

When Sandy got home, she reported that there was a fire truck and ambulance at Ernie's.  Later I talked to Art who said that Ernie had been parking a boat & trailer using his 4-wheeler when the 4-w basically exploded, burned up along with a boat and motor.  They'd called 911 and the fire truck had also saved some trees (?) that were in danger of going up.  I don't know if the police had also shown up -- apparently a 911 call automatically brings all three services.  Ernie apparently joked with Art that the 4-wheeler wouldn't be giving him any more trouble; apparently it had in the past.

It's not really a joking matter, however.  I presume that his insurance company will cover the 4-w and he won't tell them that he was in the middle of operating his unlicensed marina.  Hmmm.

Kim came over for dinner; we had planked salmon which was excellent, along with asparagus and brown rice (not for me).  The girls were still talking a the dinner table when I headed to my den to see the tail end of the Tour de France for the day; still talking when I went to bed close to 10pm.

Today, with any luck, I'll launch the Bayliner and we'll go for a ride.  Kim will be heading to Toronto to pick up Jason et al at the airport.  Apparently they are planning on coming up north tomorrow night ?  Can that be correct ?

Onward !
