Yes, I fell behind again. I need a cattle prod.
On the 28th, Sunday, we had our late scheduled flight back to Florida. We stopped to see Joyce in Burlington and then rolled on. Everything was on time and going well until we got to Daytona and then, for the life of me, I couldn't find the airport parking ticket. Ugh. Well, it's a small parking lot and the attendant had a list of cars and day so we sorted that out. Two days later, when I put on my shorts, I found the ticket in the pocket. Of course I'd been wearing my jeans in the meantime and the ticket had never made it to my wallet, which is where it would normally be.
Cassie was happy to see us, even though it was 1am !
On the 29th, Monday, we did some catch-up. Sandy is feeling much better but still tired. I got organized for a 300k the next day ...
On the 30th, I made it to Tavares for a 5am start and finished up just before 8pm. It was windy and cold but I made reasonable time. Sometimes doing these rides is like being pregnant; you never know what food craving you might have. This time I ate beef jerky, more than I've had in the last year. It wasn't that good but whatever. In between I had some cheese that I'd brought as well as a variety of pocket snacks from sesame snaps to fig bars, all Granite Anvil leftovers, and a couple of gels. I didn't have a meal.
On the 31st, to finish up the month, I recovered from the 300k but actually I felt pretty good, no lingering soreness. I caught up on a bunch of emails (perhaps 75 from the prior day) and did some RUSA work.
I've been trying to sort out a Windows 10 problem, my VM Windows 10. It seems that there's a large update that requires a couple of reboots and after one reboot it doesn't come back up. At the cottage over Christmas I had to revert to an earlier backup (I take them regularly). It caught me again in the last few days and now I've gone back to a Dec 1 version. My data is backed up separately, hourly, so there's no issue with that, and the W10 environment itself is pretty static as I don't often install new programs. Naturally existing programs sometimes have updates but they can always be recreated.
Anyway, at this point I've turned off the automatic windows updating features which isn't the best of course. I'll try again only in a more controlled environment, ensuring that I'm on the latest version of VMWare and taking a full backup just beforehand.
Today, Feb 1, we head to south Florida for the day. More on that later.
Onward !
