Dec 15-17 - safely in our northern abode

It was a rainy trip through most of the US, finally driving out of it north of Pittsburgh.  We got to Davies in time for a latish lunch, a RUSA conference call, Mass in town for me, and a great rib-fest dinner.  With no stops the next day other than Parry Sound for some basic groceries, we arrived in good time to dig our way down through 18" of frozen stuff on the stairs, unload and do a quick walk around to see that all was ok outside our place and Davies.

We stopped to talk to Art Y on the road who mentioned skidoos out on the lake and sure enough, there are lots of tracks not quite out to the middle of the lake.  I went out the next day with my drill and found that we had a good 8" all the way across.  That's probably a record for thickness this time of year.  There's about 1" of crusty stuff on top so it's easy walking, but not skate-able.  Today we'll take a walk across the lake and scout out a Christmas tree but not cut it yet.  I'm not ready for that !

I went into town yesterday on the 17th to pick up mail, ran the snowblower to remove some non-plowed white stuff by the barn and garage and widen the area a little bit for parking.  The X5 went into the barn last night.

Ernie Bain has moved out for the winter; Bernice Stiller isn't here;  Art and Marilyn are alone on the road as residents.  Art does a lot of walking for exercise.  We never see Marilyn.  It's quiet.

Tomorrow we head into Toronto for 36 hours, hair appointment for Sandy, grocery provisioning, dinner with my cousin Michael and wife Karen, etc.

Onward.
