May 20 - a crazy two weeks

Well ... rode the ride, worked the ride, all done.  Well, not all done, still the accounting to do and reimbursement.

Our pre-ride was hot.  Very hot.  We lost 3 out of 7 riders for various reasons.  The main event was hot too, but a good 10F cooler than the pre-ride.  We again lost 3 riders but from a larger field.  29 riders involved overall, including 3 who just rode the final 200k; 6 DNF's.  Not too bad.  We had three complete the 1000k and qualify for PBP.

I got some good sleep during the pre-ride, more than I did supporting; that's par for the course.  Hotel breakfast was hit and miss on the pre-ride; worked out well on the main event.  The Key West hotel room assignment got all screwed up and I slept on the couch, not wanting to phone around to see who only had one person in their room.  It all worked out but not without some stress.

Everyone finished safely, save a little road rash for a couple.  There was a major accident, fatality, that blocked our way mid-group on the third day and we had to re-route riders.  The last rider finished 1/2 hour before the deadline on Sunday.  With a sigh of relief, we packed up.  I headed home on Monday.

Now it's time to pack to head north and I have a whole bunch of things to do here to make that happen.  Add another week to that crazy two weeks and call it three.

Northward !
