Jul 20/21 - odds and sods

The kids are having a great time.  Swimming, playing, no crying, no meltdowns ... house rules are followed.  Kids are so adaptable and know their behavioral boundaries depending on the audience.

We've fallen into a routine.  Matthew and Zoe sleep downstairs and are up between 7 & 8, generally.  I put Matthew down about 7:30 - pee first, then teeth, then downstairs, off with clothes, on with pj's, into bed.  No reading necessary.  Sandy takes care of Zoe who refuses to do teeth, Zoe reads to Sandy on the couch in the basement and then goes to bed.  Emma and Lauren have been sleeping upstairs.  They get up later and go to bed later.

During the day they play.  Zoe and Matthew play for hours and have been eating hearty meals.  They're too busy to snack.  They swim off the Davies.  Matthew jumps off the dock now and wanted to jump off the diving board but Sandy wouldn't let him.  Of course both he and Zoe wear life jackets.  Matthew can play forever on the beach with the well worn beach toys.  All he needs is a bucket, sand and water.

Zoe cracked her iPod screen on the way up.  Major cracking.  With Saran Wrap tightly stretched across it, no problem.  The only ipad is Matthew's and it gets use by everyone, it seems.  Sandy's old blue ipad wants to be re-authorized but won't talk to itunes so it's probably dead if not on its last legs.  It sort-of turns on and is sort-of charged but that's as far as it goes.  I haven't done any more research nor do I have the latest version of itunes on my desktop ... and besides, sometimes that W10 virtual machine doesn't make nice with more complicated devices attached.  I don't have itunes on the laptop.

Yesterday I took the kids, sans Lauren, out in the Whaler to Lost Channel.  All they have is popsicle type stuff in a freezer now, no soft serve ice cream.  Lauren's "ice cream island" has lost its charm.  When the new owners took it over they weren't able to get permits to serve food and it wasn't worth the investment so it's cottages, Inn and campground only.  No restaurant and when expensive things break down, that's the end of them.

The closest that I've been to riding my bike is a) cleaning, which I did more of yesterday; b) ridewithgps route plotting, which I did more of yesterday for the upcoming 1000k and c) exchanging emails regarding expense allocation from the last couple of 1200k's.  I've also been looking at dates for next year.  Hamid's 1200k is in June.  At the end of June, Paul is twisting my arm to ride PBP Audax.  August has MMM (Manhattan / Montreal / Manhattan); Late October has Cracker Swamp in Florida and early November, I think, has Great Southern in Oz, which start and ends in the Victoria area.

Sandy is planning on a provisioning trip to Parry South this morning, Monday.  I've got to get down there soon for a haircut, but the six of us won't fit into one car !  I also need to pickup some gas for both the Whaler and the Bayliner.  I'm down to almost nothing.

Angelika and her Mom are planning on coming up on Tuesday for a couple of days.  Jeffrey, not sure about Sara, is planning on the weekend and perhaps Stef/Aaron and David/Vanda.  I don't know about duration for anyone but the place will continue to hop until sometime next week and then it'll be down to Sandy and me ... and then I'll be gone the long weekend for the 1000k.  Shortly after that, we're off to France.  Before we know it; mid September will be here. We leave for Hemmingford on Aug 11 and will likely be back here September 11.

Yikes !

Onward ?!?!
