Apr 23 - the usual, not

My plan was to get out for a ride but that didn't happen.  I spent hours on the phone trying to sort out a banking issue with RUSA, a check that someone said that wasn't received ... but it was.  The bank generated checks are very easy to work with when you send them; very hard because there's no image for you to see, of the cancelled check.  Anyway, I finally, after just under 2 hours, sorted that out on the bank end and now the recipient is looking for a record of receipt.  You'd think that lawyers depositing into trust accounts for retainers would be well tracked ...

Then there was more RUSA stuff but that was simply because I'd run out of time to go for a ride anyway.  The wind was up to 25mph out on the ICW, really ripping up breakers.  Casse was the beneficiary of my lost ride.  I did, however, get in some more mangrove trimming on the island ...

Just before 5pm, I realized that I hadn't place my wine order with Total Wine.  The website says that placed before 5pm, you'll get an email with pickup for the next day ... another not.  10 minutes later it was ready.  Never mind.  I left it for the next day, today.

Overnight we had yet another tornado warning - standard fare cya - and heavy t-storms.  That kept Cassie clinging to me this morning.  We then had our "outing" of the day - over to Bert Fish to pickup stool and urine test kits as we are both doing routine annual physical bloodwork next week.  I expect a telephone call for my actual meet-the-doc.

Then I tackled my computer project of the day, which I only do every few years.  My linux boot disk was getting tight so I had ordered a 1TB SSD to replace the 500GB SSD as my boot drive.  It's a multi step process to get there - install the boot loader, restore a full backup of the linux side, copy all the public stuff (a 2 hour process), double check bootable, copy over the VM.  Check check check.

Well, needless to say I had problems with booting.  Damn GRUB.  Managed to fix that by setting up a bootable usb stick, unplugging the internal drives, updating GRUB, etc.  Right now the W10 VM is copying over.  Next I have to setup a new, larger, VM C drive and backup and restore the W10 to a larger file.  I was finally running off the end of the 64gb file.

I do all this so that my desktop PC environment is portable.  I take the SSD with me when we change houses.  Why I really do all this, I don't know.  I do almost everything on the laptop and could abandon Linux but ... but it's somewhat, in a masochistic way, fun.

It stopped raining for a couple of hours but it's back at it again.  No ride.  No sandbar for Cassie.  I did pick up wine though :).

Onward !
