Jan 28/29 - out with the old

For a few years now, I've put up with this dang Samsung TV that I have to hit gently or not so gently to see a picture.  The unit is 5 years old, as I recall and somewhere along the way, just out of warranty, it started delaying going "live".   Then I discovered that a little tap on the top would cause bring it alive.  We could hear the sound but not see anything -- the lcd backlighting wasn't lighting.

That was ok for a while and then it got to the point where I had to hit it over and over again, with the lighting flashing until eventually it would stay on.  It would never go off, once on.

Fast forward to now.  It's getting worse.  See if I can find something loose.  Open up the back, removing lots of screws.  I've tinkered with this for two days with the back removed.  It's now back in place.

It's off.  I touched one spot on a circuit board and it came on !  but that wasn't the issue.  Next time that spot didn't make a difference.  Touch a ribbon connector.  Bingo !  but not the next time.   Push at a board ... bingo again ... but not the next time.  Try as I might, I couldn't find a consistent spot to touch, loose connection ... there might be a wire loose somewhere that joins with the backlighting array but danged if I can find it.

Today's the day.  New Samsung (why oh why except that they seem to get the best ratings) being delivered today.  Out with the old.

Onward.
