Cleaning my bike, I discovered a cracked chainstay. Ugh. Really ugh. I now have get it to Hugh at True North Cycles to fix. I won't be riding on that bike for a long time.
The backup becomes primary, but it's not that easy:
- move wheels, change tires because my 32's won't fit that bike. Leave tire lever on workbench. (Wrong).
- wire the light. This bike was never setup for the hub powered light after changing forks. Fishing the wires for internal wiring was a challenge.
- install the light - luckily I had a longer sleeve nut (for want of a better name) for the caliper brake to mount the luxos at the crown.
- add garmin mount
- check and adjust shifting
- remove rear rack, move bags
So this is as good as it gets. Riding, there were problems that I just had to live with for the duration of the ride
- rear shifting was a little cranky but mostly ok
- front chain wasn't easily dropping into small ring. Should be a simple adjustment
- wahoo bolt is located such that a charge cable won't work - too close to and aligned with bars
- right pedal or clear is worn, not holding properly. This produced an out of alignment rotation that caused my ankle to start hurting and fear that I had an Achilles problem developing. I corrected that in the way I held my foot. Need to check pedals and/or cleats
It was hot. Desperately hot at one point on Sunday. While mostly on quiet roads, there were a couple of times that traffic compounded the heat and a few minutes recovery at a control c-store helped bring down core temp.
I rode with Joe Todd from GA. The ride was setup as 3+3 returning to the start. We left at 4am, finished the first 300 before 8pm, left at midnight and finished up a little before 6:30 pm. 16 hours for the first 300k, 18.5 for the second.
Hamid did an excellent job, of course. Shab wasn't at the start but saw us in both days. It was great seeing them both.
More to say, as always, but wrapping this up!
