May 27-Jun 16 - whirlwind

Our time in Spain ended on May 28 with our flight to Miami.

It was good to see Angelika in NSB - we'd left before she had arrived on May 18 - and she stayed a couple more days before heading home.

Even better, Angelika was there to help us pack up the house.  We left the same day she did - May 31.

Our journey was complicated.
- to Deland that day for an imaging appointment for Sandy then really hitting the road.
- we stopped that night at a Hampton in Yemassee SC and then June 1 in a Marriott in Carlisle PA
- hotel pizza the first night kept us going but was awful.
- I can't say enough good things about the Rustic Tavern in Carlisle. It made up for the pizza and then some
- in Buffalo, we stayed at the Marriott by the university again, eating at Forno Napoli again. More good things to say.
- skipped a day - after Carlisle, we made it to Radnor for Sandy's Dr appt then drove to Buffalo. That was June 2.
- June 3 we crossed the border and stopped at Costco in Barrie, the market and sobeys in Parry Sound and made it to the cottage in good time to be open for business when David and Vanda arrived that evening
- whew that was Friday
- Stef came up on the Saturday and left on Sunday. D&V left at 5 am Monday
- Jason and Loraine showed up on Saturday as well, leaving on Tuesday.  On Wednesday they picked up Kim and Graham at the airport, back from their Camino jaunt.
- Sandy went into Sudbury on Monday
- I squeezed in a couple or three bike rides
- we unpacked, packed and packed some more
- we left on the am of June 15, dropping Cassie with Stef, stopping in Whitby to sign Ontario Wills, getting to the airport in good time for our flight to Paris

We got the Bayliner into the water when David was there; the Whaler later in the week. I spent a few hours tuning the whaler and it's now running well.

Not so the Honda Foreman. It needs carb work but I didn't have time to do more nor did I have time to trailer it to Parry Sound. We may have to rely on the neighbors …

Somewhere in there I made a couple of trips to Loring, picking up the big mail - the bike frame from Mark - and on Sunday a trip to Swan Lake in Toronto.

Sandy pulled weeds and put in a small veggie garden; I put in the watering system and wired up a timer. I'm not sure what it will look like when we return. That depends a lot on Vanda's help.

And here we are … no wait, we're a 5 hour drive away in St Julien en Genevois, close to the Swiss Border.

Our flight to Paris was running late. Our expected 8:15 arrival was after 10. Sheryl was waiting for us.  Luggage came out quickly, Europcar was amazingly quick and we hit the road. Waze did its usual good job getting us here.

Our hotel Rey recommended a restaurant in town - Vieux Fournil - which was great. Everything is very busy here, tourist season in full swing.  The two closer restaurants were fully booked.

It's warm. Tonight in Rome it will be hot. 90's.

My fear was that we wouldn't be able to get all the luggage in the car but we managed.  The Renault Kadjar is quite nice, not quite the acceleration of our X5 but good, and good handling. It took some time to figure out the cruise control and a couple of hours for CarPlay to activate - the car is brand new - but we're now ready for the next driving day.

Southward ho!

Ps I'm probably missing a hundred things but we'll leave it at that.
