Jun 6 - the last straw

Finally, we cracked the last bottle of overheated red wine.  There are still bottles of port, sherry and icewine; I have no idea how those fared.  They aren't everyday drinking so I haven't had the opportunity to test taste.

Overall the reds fared better than the whites.  A number of the reds would have gradually matured over several more years but were quickly, and not gently, aged.

I've partially restocked but the mix is different.  I had many Bordeaux wines before, almost none now.  Different offerings, different prices and just the span of time.  The collection had been accumulated over several years; what's down there now is from one year's offerings.   They aren't all from the same vintage, but close.  The spread of years is gone.

Oh well.

I tried almost everything with my bike yesterday, looking for the source of the click.  Not a creak, it only occurs when I'm riding easy.  It's not when I'm really pushing or simply spinning down a hill.  It's that middle ground.  I swapped pedals, I swapped wheels, all the drivetrain save the bottom bracket, which is just bearings, and the crankset spider, have been changed.

It won't click on the trainer but it will click simply riding across the basement floor.  It doesn't take many pedal strokes to produce the click and it's always in the same two places in the rotation.  I'm pretty sure that I've checked standing up and it clicks then.

In the process, I realized that I need a new rear wheel.  I've got a spare; in fact it's the one that I rode in Italy last year.  The bearings on the wheel in question need replacing and the rims are really worn.  I'll deal with that another day.  In the meantime, I did order another wheel that will be delivered while I'm in Italy; delivered to Reading for Sandy's pickup.

It appears that I'm wearing out bikes and I'm wearing out me !  My hips are in about the same shape as those rims but unfortunately I don't have spare hips to swap.  I'll have to live with what I've got for now; deal with THAT another day :).

It did rain in the morning and then cleared up.   I did some test rides on Osprey Road but not far, just to sense the clicks and/or progress thereon.  It was muddy, not conducive to going a long distance.

Late in the afternoon Cassie did come with me in the boat.  I see a small section of the new house roof with green metal roofing.  It's hard to see so I don't know whether it's new or I just didn't see it before.  There's also work going on at Donnie's, roof work.

Otherwise it's been pretty quiet.  Sandy heads out today so it will be even quieter the next couple of days.  I'll head to Barrie on Friday; time TBD, and back early Sunday a.m., could be after dawn.

Onward ...
