Yes, we're still alive, to answer Jason's question. I'm finding internet access spotty; that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
It was an easy flight, as flights go. We were slightly late boarding but landed on time. 2.5 hours later we had our car ... yes, it took that long. First we couldn't get to the gate due to ground traffic. Then the queue was immense in the immigration hall and very slow moving. Then we had to wait quite a while for Europcar which had an orderly take-a-number queue. They did their usual pleasant try to upsell but we drove away in our VW Golf; luggage fitting nicely once the rear seats are dropped down.
That was Monday spilling into Tuesday. The rest of Tuesday was driving to Harrogate, a frustrating experience as the Garmin tried to take us the shortest route, first getting us onto the A-road instead of the M and then doing the same thing at Leeds so we crawled through Leeds and I mean crawled. One car per traffic light cycle kind of crawling makes for a slow trip. Before that we had stopped a few times for coffee and food and coffee and coffee as well as a very slow spot with construction and/or traffic. I recognized one such stop on the M1 as a place that we'd stopped with Jim and Sheryl in 2014. Our 4 hour trip became 6 ...
Allan was awaiting us in the driveway, having followed my SPOT. We chatted for a while and then had dinner; Christine having prepared a wonderful meal. That day or was it two days, done, finished.
Our first day here was chat, chat, chat; assemble bicycle, chat, chat, chat, go for dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant, chat, chat, chat. The bike looks ok but it rained most of the day so I wasn't able to properly check it out. The sun came out just as we were leaving for dinner. We did run one half-hour errand earlier heading into town to pick up a new coffee filter holder as Sandy had left ours on Sheryl's kitchen counter ... such is life.
I'm now typing this blog; internet has disconnected again. It started off the same as yesterday, snappy and then quickly went to "destination host unreachable" or "request timed out" when I try a ping. Oh ... I'm getting through again ... better send this email !
