This isn't my full blog, just some thoughts.
20,000+ meters of climbing is a lot of climbing. Of course it's also a lot of descending ! This ride really played to my strengths as the grades were moderate, mostly <6% and with the climbing, wind wasn't a factor and it was hot as hell.
I don't do well with sustained climbing approaching 10%. I'd have to train for that and don't. Similarly, into the wind on the flat, nope, as it burns energy physically and mentally and I don't like drafting as it takes a toll on my knees and my butt.
The heat was a factor for all but again it was a playing field leveler as I don't drink much water, usually doing a 200k without getting into my second water bottle, so one bottle was constantly being used for "micro doses" of water to my head, keeping my hair wet and thus my body cooler.
Lastly and perhaps as important as all the rest put together, I can do these things without a lot of sleep.
Randonesia is quickly wiping out any memories of tough moments ... I did enjoy this ride.
I will get to the full blog in a couple of days.I've been thinking a lot about this ride, what worked and didn't work for me. I always do that, try to learn from each one. I haven't learned the key lesson yet though - this is a crazy sport and why the heck am I doing this to my body !!!???
