Yes, we've been busy.
On Thursday I did go for a ride, nice day rough roads ... yes, 522 is pretty rough these days ... south and back. In spite of my cough, it was head-clearing.
On Friday the three of us (Jason, Kim and I) met up with Pat, Helen and Kevin to cut down another couple of trees. PH&K were already there, having arrived early and filled their trailers. Pat dropped two more leaving those for us. We piled up the remains between Jason's and my place and I pulled out the splitter and Jason took care of his. That Harbor Freight motor got a couple of hours use.
David & Vanda arrived in the evening in time for a late dinner; no road closures this time ! David had bought a new 12 gauge shotgun, a pump action, and gave that a spin on Saturday a.m., getting off a couple of shots at ducks down in Pondsfords Bay where Alex and I hunted for many years. Vanda went along for the ride. I expected them to go out again this a.m. but it's almost 7am now and no action ...
Jason & Kim & David & Vanda and I headed out again on Saturday a.m. to do more tree work. We took down the remaining tree on Stillar's hill and a birch further down the road. There's still a good dozen trees to come down, almost all dead. We piled all that at my place and got the splitter going, working until about 10am. Later in the day I went back and couple of times giving the splitter a lot more exercise. That sub-$100 gas engine has more than paid for itself in firewood. There's a huge mound of wood up there that needs piling in our woodsheds.
Sandy prepped the lamb finger burners early in the day and we had those for dinner. Excellent. She took Cassie for a walk; she's been doing that regularly.
The weather has just been glorious; summer at long last. The Davies were swimming yesterday although the water is a little brisk ... about 68 according to my depth gauge, but of course that's surface temperature. Their thermometer measures about 65 down a couple of feet. Of course all this is different if expressed in metric ...
Today -- finish up the splitting; go to Mass; pile some wood ... whatever else.
