Sep 16-22 - many kms

From Hemmingford to
- Fredericton NB, to
- North Sydney NS, to
- Corner Brook NL, to
- St John's NL, to
- Deer Lake NL, to
- St Anthony NL - where we are now.

Our primary objectives have been met - drop off Ti frame with Mark Beaver in Halifax and get to Newfoundland. The drop off happened on the long day from Fredericton to North Sydney.  The stop in Halifax effectively split the day's driving in half.  Mark Is now building my frame and my hope is that I can pick up both on our return to Halifax.

The next day was long as it included the 7 hour ferry ride.  That's only part of the story of course because we have to check in at the ferry at least 2 hours beforehand. We made good use of the time, booking a cabin that wasn't available when we arranged the ferry.

Sandy didn't really make any use of the cabin, preferring to sit in the comfy chairs on one of the decks. I had a snooze at one point, so it worked for me. They are spacious with a large bathroom and shower but not much room to sit apart for a small desk and chair.  We had originally thought about an overnight ferry one way but that didn't work out.

Cell service was available the entire voyage, which was useful. WiFi was nonexistent.

There are multiple vehicle decks and lots of trucks. Passenger decks are 7-9 with 8 being mostly cabins. Food service was limited to sandwiches, no bar. There are limits on the number of passengers. All this is, of course, covid restrictions.

Newfoundland is fascinating. People, scenery, culture, food, all good. St John's is more worldly of course, St Anthony down to earth Newfie. Trees, moose (haven't seen any), caribou (not these either), cod everywhere, cut and stacked firewood everywhere, mountains, lakes and the ever present salt water inlets. We've had great weather albeit extremely windy - but by Newfoundland standards, perhaps not.

We hit the usual sights in St John's, recommended by Annemarie May. Signal Hill, Cape Spear, almost blown off our feet. A search for Starbucks was successful but no Newfoundland or Maritime espresso cup. We did find one in Gander, however, on the flip-flop and visited the 9-11 memorial. Come from away.

Accommodation has been good to wonderful with the exception perhaps of one roadside motel in North Sydney which was passable. On the return we have a better hotel with a great restaurant. We will return to the hotel in Corner Brook tonight.

I could go on, but won't.
