I left for the US on Monday of Labor Day weekend, getting to Jeffrey's. Overnight there and off to Leesburg VA to meet up with Hamid, Vinny and Paul for dinner. 4am the next day we started Hamid's Northern Virginia Clover 1200k.
An interesting route with lots of climbing, typical of Virginia, more traffiky than the age-old Shenandoah 1200 because you keep coming back to Leesburg, it was well worth doing. They all are. I notched up 45. Vinny hit 46.
Strong riders all, stronger than I as the lanterne rouge, nevertheless we got the job done. I'm also the oldest by a few years. That's my excuse but in reality I haven't had the consistent riding this year. Today, the 16th, the main event got underway at 4am.
Back to Jeffrey's on Sunday morning, I then did the Randonneurs Ontario AGM zoom call and scheduled my covid test for the next morning. Tuesday I headed off, seeing Frank and Nancy Tetz for lunch and then back in the car heading towards Hemmingford.
My hope was that I'd receive the covid test result before getting to the border, as that was necessary for me to reenter Canada. Alas that wasn't to be. 15 minutes after checking into a Plattsburgh motel it came through. Rats.
Not worth moving on, I took my time the next am, filled in the ArriveCAN app, had breakfast, went to Starbucks, filled my gas tank and headed for the border. Two open slots at the junction of 15 & 87, another smoothest ever crossing.
A quiet day at Sheryl's and we're basically ready to roll out this morning.
New Brunswick here we come.
