To sum up the last dozen days, chillin. The weather has been mostly good but with intermittent periods of rain. Like now. We had a crowd of adults for Thanksgiving - Stef, Aaron, Kylie, Jesse, David and Vanda. From the neighborhood we had Jason, Lorraine, Kim, Graham, Gavin and Amanda. Cassie, Mya and Chili hung out. Life is good with family and friends.
The lead-in to Thanksgiving weekend saw beautiful weather then a bit of rain Saturday and Sunday and a glorious Monday. The weather was more like mid August than early October. Jason got in a swim on his birthday. I even had a chat with Claudia and we helped her order Starlink. When it will arrive, nobody knows, but it will only arrive if it's ordered.
Now we're heading towards closing. In the sunshine yesterday, I hung the gazebo tarps and Christmas lights. Should they be called Christmas lights when they're up there from October to May ? No matter. We've heard that they're a location marker for those on snowmobiles after dark on the lake. Happy to be of service !
I moved the big dock a few days ago, taking advantage of the high water and yet it's even higher now. No rocks are showing and given the additional rain overnight, it will be straining at the bungies before long, floating higher and higher. I still have to move the other dock. I still have to put the Whaler away. That's fine.
Our original plan was to head out early next week, take in the Van Gogh exhibit in Toronto on the way, staying overnight. That plan changed when we couldn't get reservations for next week. We're heading to Toronto this a.m., sans luggage, sans trailer. We'll head to Fergus first and drop off my Ti frame for repairs and then to Toronto. We've booked the Harbor Castle overnight and the VG is at 1 Yonge, basically across the street. Extrapolating further, we'll have breakfast at the St. Lawrence Market and then head back north. Driving is going to be crappy - heavy rain forecast. Dang.
Speaking of driving, once back at the cottage, I plugged that tire. The plug is doing its job.
The trailer is semi loaded. The garage is organized. The barn will need a little more shuffling when I yank the Whaler out of the water. Sandy's 16' kayak will have to be stowed on the racks. The sap-coated old kayaks are hung under the deck right now. I could still move them to the barn once the Whaler is in there. We'll see. The lake-water-pump system hasn't been decommissioned for the year yet but that takes about 1/2 hour max. There's about a day's work that'll have to be done in 2.5, including all the packing and loading, and if all goes according to Hoyle, we'll be out of here on Tuesday, arrive at Jeffrey's on Wednesday, be able to help with Sara's appointment on Thursday and then likely head towards Florida on Friday. I say towards because Sandy wants to see Mariadela and Leonas. That would mean arriving in Florida on Sunday. We'll see. Driving straight through from the Philly area is a long haul.
And there you have it. Most of October in a nutshell.
