Warm today -- upper 70's -- and moderate winds 8 mph from the WSW. I took advantage of the warmer weather and went out early -- around 7:30 and was back by 11:45. This is actually the time that I prefer to ride -- get back, have lunch, and still have the day ahead of me.
I took the Merritt Island route to the visitors center and back. On the way down I noticed 4-5 police cars go by, headed northbound -- not together, just over the course of the trip south. That was unusual because these are the first that I've ever noticed on this stretch of road. I wondered whether it was something to do with the upcoming shuttle launch (March 15th) but got my answer as I was riding north.
Approaching me going south were two police cars, taking up both the southbound and northbound lanes, with flashers on. Behind them in the distance was a large truck with something on its flatbed taking up both lanes. The officer in the car suggested that I get off to the side of the road -- good idea !
Alas, however, it was not something from NASA, at least not something interesting -- it was a huge metal and glass gazebo the entire width of the road, that was moving slowly south on that truck.
That was my excitment for the day ... yes, I know, small things amuse small minds ...
So ... I got a couple of projects completed -- finished installing Sandy's clothesline and finally, finally, neatly installed the coax cable from the satellite dish up in the soffits rather than lying on the ground. It took a fair amount of time because the coax runs from the one end of the house to the other, following all the jogs in the roof, with a clip screwed in every 3-4 feet.
Biking was good -- I'll probably do the same tomorrow. On Wednesday, if the weather is ok and Sandy is feeling well (she now has the cold that I suffered with the last few days) we'll go out in the boat. Thursday I have to take the car in for service -- the alarm is still acting up, going off for no reason (at least not a discernable one).
Nutrition -- 3 bottles of water -- not enough, but for some reason I did not want to drink. Cliff bar at 20 miles; gels at 35, 45, 55 & 65 miles.
Ride stats -- 74 miles; 17.6 mph.
