Well, it's been a busy couple of days with a variety of things:
-- went for a bike ride yesterday
-- grouted the tiles in the darkroom
-- did drywall finishing in the darkroom
-- put in the bathroom ceiling
-- did drywall finishing in the bathroom
-- built a bench for the laundry room
That third-to-last item re the ceiling -- sounds easy, right ? yes and no -- so many details --
a) put in the ceiling 2x4's to support drywall
b) relocate the ceiling light
c) relocate the furnace vent
d) relocate the HRV intake
e) cut and hang drywall
It's amazing how much time one item can take, especially if you are the carpenter, the furnace guy, the drywall guy, the electrician -- jack of all trades is a perfect description (and master of none !).
Anyway -- my objective was to get to the point where all the drywall was up, except for the shower (and of course I just remembered that I should be putting drywall in teh closet under the stair landing ... later). So I'm there and can move forward with all the finishing -- something that I'm not very good at -- and then prime (paint) those areas.
The last item -- the bench -- is a change of direction for Sandy. Originally she had wanted boxes with lids along the one wall of the laundry room and space underneath for boots and shoes. She decided that a simple shelf would do -- so we picked up some 16"x8' pine for that purpose. Then we looked at how the bench seat for the dining room table would work in there -- and decided that a simple bench would do -- you're able to sit on it to put your shoes on and shoes and boots can be stowed beneath. So I've built the bench -- it's downstairs right now with the glue drying -- Sandy can then stain it the same colour as the rest of the pine and it will fit right in.
Oh -- the tiles -- we decided to go ahead with the darkroom type tiles in the bedroom. They are expected in Sudbury by next Tuesday and we can pick up on Wednesday and I can continue work. Originally they thought that there was a different dye lot in Toronto of the tiles that we wanted, but it turned out that the ones in Toronto were defective in some way.
Sandy's been running into town (Port Loring) for me -- 2x4's yesterday and some plumbing parts; flexible furnace vent today. She has also been tending her garden and has started on the final stages of staining the inside of the cottage -- putty for the nail holes and sanding and second coat of varathane for a some trim areas.
It was really hot yesterday but today the temperature only got to the mid 60's. It was really windy today -- whitecaps out front which is unusual.
That's all that I can think of at this point.
Time for supper ...
