Today was catch-up day on a lot of things.
Sandy had her staining gear out – actually she was sanding and putting the second coat of varathane on the upstairs handrails and pickets, several doors etc. That kept her occupied most of the day.
My list was long and much of it was spur-of-the-moment. It’s only a list in retrospect – I had no list with which to start.
-- wire outside speakers to stereo in workroom;
-- cleanup the wires hanging from the basement ceiling, i.e. hooks and cable ties
-- trim excess tarpaper from the deck (that one was truly not on any list, but it vastly improved the look)
-- 2nd coat mud and sand drywall -- bottom of stairs, basement bathroom, darkroom
-- trim on rafter where it has separated from drywall – we’ve been looking at this one for months
-- cut and install pieces to trim bottom of glass cabinet where it butts on basement stairs
-- install spacers and pegboard in darkroom
-- some yard cleanup
-- cut and trim telephone wire coming into the house; install telephone box on side of house (it’s been lying on the ground)
-- rescue hummingbird
We had just sat down outside with a glass of wine (it was after 5pm) and a hummingbird ran into the glass on the deck railings – it flipped over the railing and landed on the deck. I put it on a board and sat it on the table and over the next ½ hour it gradually became more alert, sat up, started looking around and then flew off. At first it was flopped on the deck with its wings akimbo and its heart rate at high speed. I was worried that it had broken a wing.
