Oct 2-3 - back to "normal"

What is a normal day in the lives of Dave & Sandy ? Well, yesterday was as close as it comes. We went grocery shopping, to the wine store to restock my red wine supply, caught up on the blog, posted pictures from our trip and visit with Emma, did the laundry, got my bike cleaned up with the Mavic wheels on and ready to ride, watched a movie on the telly ... that's about it.

I semi-dismantled the Rolf wheel hub and called them to order the replacement bearings.

It rained for much of the a.m. which was ok since we didn't have any other plans. Late in the day, however, it cleared and Sandy took Abby over to the dog-beach-park. Apparently she enjoyed herself, according to Sandy, but of course that is second-hand information -- Abby never told me so herself.

I did not bring down the satellite receiver so the movie was one that I recorded long ago to DVD -- New York, New York with Liza Minelli. I'm thinking of dropping the telephone service here which I got purely to be able to use DSL and switch over to basic cable service with cable internet. It would cost about $30 more per month though.

As part of our grocery shopping we went to our local fresh fish store and picked up some red snapper -- one of Sandy's favorites. I like it but am fonder of fish with firmer flesh, and since I don't overcook my fish (take that to mean rare to medium-rare) this type of fish never gets "flaky". I probably should have cooked it longer ... but it was good. Add baked potatoes and asperagus and we had a usual meal, for us.

As I sit here I spotted a huge land crab walk up to the sidewalk at my den back door -- well, 10" across, probably 12" if you spread out the legs. I called Sandy to see it and then Abby spotted it and started barking. With the high winds that the area has had the last few days the tides are higher than usual and we can actually see water below the mangroves out back. Normally I have to go up on the roof to see water because the foliage is so dense.

I had planned to go for a bike ride first thing today but just as it was getting light we were deluged with rain. There is a line of storms coming up the coast so I'll wait until later (smart, eh ? we Canucks can actually plan ahead ! ).

That's it for the moment; no big plans for today. I may get over to Pep Boys and Boating World -- I need to change the oil in the X5 before heading north and also want to look at a bimini top for the boat which makes it more comfortable to use in the Florida sun.
