Anyway ... the rain did pass yesterday although there were rain bands moving up the coast most never came to shore. Around 10:30 I went out for a short ride. It was already 86 and the humidity must have been close to 100 percent. The roads were still wet and mostly stayed wet in places so it was not even evaporating. I was back a little after noon ... time for lunch and to replace the dehydration from from that short ride -- 2.5 pounds, believe it or not. I think that I need an IV to ride in this kind of weather !
I caught up on my online reading -- cnnfn, cnn, velonews, paceline ... all my usual web sites then went over to Pep Boys for oil and filter for the X5 and a few small odds & ends (impulse purchases).
Beside Pep Boys is Boaters World, my next stop, to check out the bimini tops. There are a few options and I found what I was looking for then got someone to help me ... but they did not have the frame in stock. Great ... they must have had 30 fabric sets but only two wrong-sized frames. I'll call them in a couple of weeks to see if they have stock before we come back in mid November and order if they don't. Next I picked up the necessary parts to install a 12v socket in the Bayliner which I will install at the same time that I put in the depth finder which arrived here before we did. It's the same one that I put in the Boston Whaler last year -- a very inexpensive unit at around $80. I looked at other units but unless you are going to go for one that incorporates GPS and charts they don't seem worth the extra money.
As usual my time in Pep Boys and Boaters World is mostly browsing so all that took a couple of hours + driving time to and fro. They are located about 20 miles away on SR92 (Speedway Blvd) right across from the Speedway in Daytona. So ... by the time I got back it was around 5pm. Sandy had just gotten back from walking the beach for an hour.
We watched another of my recorded-from-tv movies before dinner -- the Manchurian Candidate -- the original with Frank Sinatra -- a good psychological thriller. It was rated as having violence -- it's amusing to see what "violence" was in these old movies ... pretty tame compared to today's blood & guts.
Dinner ... barbecued mahi mahi ... very good. Add rice and stir fried vegetables and, of course, wine and you have another perfect meal. Afterwards we put on yet another of these movies -- the cotton club -- with Richard Gere and a host of other people (Nicholas Cage, Gregory Hines, Lawrence Fishburn, Bob Hoskins etc.). I watched for a while but by then it was late -- 9:45 -- and past my bedtime. The only way that I can watch movies at that time of night and stay awake is if I'm eating, eg. popcorn, or standing. I did neither and went to bed. I assume that Sandy watched the end of the movie, she seemed into it.
Today ? -- hopefully another ride. I plan to get out earlier assuming that it is not raining. Angelika Scherb is due to arrive around 3pm. There is nothing else planned.
Some pictures from our trip etc. -- these are all on "recent" so if you've been there, these are duplicates ...
Prior to the trip, moving the woodbox that my Dad had constructed, over to the Davies.

The flower market in Amsterdam

Bicyles everywhere, rolling and standing

Houseboats line the canals and from a peek through some of the windows, they can be luxury living. These houseboats do not ever move.

The local's market, not touristy at all -- here a fish stall and we were regretting not having a kitchen.

We were told that we had to do a trip on one of the canal tour boats ... so we did. It was interesting and at 75 minutes, not too long (I'm not a fan of guided tours).

Kylie, Sandy, Emma and Lauren. There are many more pictures in "recent" -- even one of me !
