Oct 10 - a hunting we will go

Let's see ... what did I do yesterday ... oh yes, made that trip into Parry Sound to pick up Jack and Dolores. Jack was over his bout of sickness and checked out of the hospital around 11:30 so I headed to PS to pick them up. Naturally there was a prescription to pick up and naturally it took Shoppers Drug Mart about 1/2 hour to fill said prescription so we were back around 2:45. Apparently there was an error with the prescription so the drug store called the hospital, the doctor was occupied (he's in emergency, after all) and on and on. Not a problem though, it was good to see them back home. Off to Vancouver Island, perhaps on Wednesday now ... they are brave souls.

Alex showed up about an hour later and we headed out to duck hunt around 6pm. As usual the ducks all showed up just as it was getting dark and as usual they were on the other side of the lake -- no shooting last night. This morning, however, we were luckier -- two edible ducks now cleaned and in the fridge. One was a Harlequin duck -- quite pretty -- I took some pictures of it once we were back at the cottage. The other masqueraded as one of our decoys for about 15 minutes with the two of us counting the decoys over and over -- "but I only have 16 decoys" -- "Dave, you must have mis-counted" -- but then the mysterious extra decoy dipped its head and gave itself away ... end of story.

We've now both showered and warmed up. Although it was warm by duck-hunting-standards at 45F it was also foggy on the trip back and after a while you get chilled. We'll pack some sandwiches and our hunting and fishing gear and head out, planning on being back at the latest around 3pm so that I can get to 4:30 Mass, then hunting some more, then Thanksgiving turkey dinner. That's the plan.

That's it ... a beautiful sunny day ahead of us. I have to get some suntan lotion on and remember to take my sunglasses ! I'll stop by next door and say HI to Jason and Lorraine before we head out -- I saw their lights on sometime during the night when I got up to use the bathroom.
