Interesting -- I wonder where they go ? My assumption is that once the water gets down to a certain temperature -- it's 47F now -- they instinctively head for deep water so that they don't get stranded in shallow areas when it freezes over. Any fish who don't head for deep water would be eliminated during the winter.
We went fishing in the morning for an hour before I left for Mass and then in the evening -- deepwater fishing in the a.m. and 'normal' depths in the evening. The only fish that we saw were the minnows in my bucket.
After Mass, and after lunch, we went out on the ATCs, following the trail back and across the bridge that we had reconstructed last year. The bridge had moved ! It seems that the ice must have pushed it so we cut down some branches (I had brought the chain saw) to bridge the gap. I tried using the winch to pull the bridge back into place but all I was doing was dragging the ATC. We then followed the trail all the way back out to 522 and were exhausted by the time that we got out -- it's a brutal trail, lots of water, lots of mud, lots of work just steering these things around.
So ... we're definitely convinced that we don't want to get a deer way back on one of these trails and have to make multiple trips back and forth. Besides, we are just as likely to get something close as far -- we're heading out this morning and will sit separately, walkie-talkies for communication, back along the trail before the bridge. Who knows -- apparently there have been a pair if deer eating Bonnie's flowers and sleeping between the cottages along here. All we need to do is be in position and hopefully other hunters moving about will chase them to us.
It was supposed to rain this morning but that has dropped from the forecast and I see from the doppler that the wet is all south of us. It is supposed to be clear until Friday so we'd better make hay as the sun shines, as they say. It is also supposed to be warm -- getting up to 16C / 61F mid-week. That's practically shorts and t-shirts weather -- it will be hot wearing our blaze orange outfits. I know, complain, complain ...
Ok -- that's it -- the clock just struck 6am, Alex will be up in a minute -- it's time to make coffee for our thermoses. We plan to go out early this morning, be back for an early lunch, and then go out again. I have to find a book to read !
Onward ...
