There was nothing sighted yesterday other than ATCs, Finns hooting in the bush, mud, black flies, you name it. Nothing was biting when we went out fishing either, although we had to cut that slightly short because it started raining -- that capped our day and hunting/fishing season.
However ... we cannot complain. While deer are plentiful here, it is simply luck for two hunters to encounter a deer. A large hunting party can drive deer but not two hunters sitting or walking in the bush. We had great weather, bugs notwithstanding. We did some fishing and caught a couple. We played some pool ...
Will I go out hunting by myself ? I'm not sure. The chance of getting something is slim, and what if I did ? It's difficult for one person to deal with a deer ... if I have the ATC with me I might be able to load it on the back. Without the ATC, I would have to come back for it, which isn't a big deal if I stay close. I'll decide on that later. Fishing is different -- I will do some fishing over the next few days until I run out of minnows or time.
So ... onward. Alex will leave after breakfast this morning and then I'll do some closeup chores. It looks like the rain has already moved through so I'll hang the second tarp on the gazebo after tying down the first. I'll also cleanup the ATCs, driving them down to the beach and washing off the mud, Unfortunately the power washer is put away for the year ... I suppose that I could use a hose from the well water to ease that chore but using a bucket and sponge might be the easiest.
Sandy came back from Toronto and stopped in Parry Sound, retrieving 9 cases of wine. There is still one case missing so I emailed the Ontario coordinator with whom I corresponded a couple of weeks ago. Most of these cases were six bottles ... but it's still a lot of wine ... and mostly French with a little Italian thrown in for good luck. I'll organize that today ... yesterday I just piled the cases in the wine cellar.
The plan is still to leave on Wednesday. I have to decide prior to then if I want to mount my snow tires ... if I don't I should probably rotate the tires on the X5 -- there is considerably more wear on the rear tires.
There are a few other things that I need to do before leaving for Florida but nothing major. I picked up a big screw-eye and eye-bolt to put on the garage man-door (as opposed to the car-door) so that I can put a padlock on the door. The frame twists when the ground freezes and the door handle won't lock. If I use the deadbolt, it won't turn -- you get the idea -- so I figured that this would be an easy solution.
That's it ...
