Nov 5/6 - still nothing

Nope. Nothing headed for the freezer except for one pike that Alex caught on the 6th. If we were "living off the land" we would be hungry. We have one more day -- today -- and then we hang up our guns for the year. As for the fishing rods ... I'll probably continue to go out as long as it's not too cold.

As for the weather -- it's been hot relative to normal expectations for this time of year. What I need is a blaze-orange t-shirt so that I don't have to wear anything heavier to hunt !

We do have one thing to report -- a deer sighting. Yesterday Alex sat in one spot while I made a long walking circuit and chased a buck his way. Unfortunately it was about 100 yards away, on the move, and screened by many trees. We later found his tracks on the road - I figure that we could just sit on the road in lawn chairs and we'd do just as well and not have done as much work. I walked a lot yesterday, pushing my way through the bush, up and down rocks and hills - a lot of work. There were deer tracks everywhere ... but that's not the same as at the butcher.

So ... today we'll go out. We might get showers this afternoon / evening so whenever it starts raining that is the end of our hunting. It's cooler this morning at 38F according to the thermometer so perhaps it will be more comfortable ... not as many black flies, deer flies, mosquitoes, horse flies -- they were all out in droves yesterday. I see that the weather prediction has it going down to -12C in Sudbury mid next week so perhaps that will finally kill them off.

We did find out where they hide though -- Alex and I moved the huge pile of leaves that Lorraine had raked over to the garden while Sandy spread them. The flies are in the leaves ... they were out in clouds. We moved the leaves with the ATC and the small trailer, bundling up as many as possible in a tarp and then Alex sat on the tarp while I drove around. It took perhaps 8-10 trips to get all the leaves. We need a trailer with greater capacity !

Sandy left for Toronto yesterday and took in a ballet last night. She'll be back home tonight. I talked to her last night while she was ordering dinner at the restaurant -- one of those annoying people on cell phones in a restaurant ! The waiter was taking her wine order while I was critiquing it in her other ear !

Some more news ... not good ... Sara had a miscarriage, unfortunately, so there is not another grandchild on the way. I talked to Jeffrey last night and it sounds like she's doing ok. Losing a baby is a hard thing to take -- both physically and mentally. We'll see them next week -- sounds like we'll be babysitting Emma while they go for a balloon ride ... hmmm.

I guess that's it ... Abby will have a boring day today if we're out hunting for most of it.
