Last night's dinner. We've been to that sushi place so many times and we never expected to be disappointed. The tuna was not fresh -- it had been frozen and it was flavorless. I have sashimi and there's no hiding the non-taste. I'm sure that it's because they couldn't get fresh ... there was nothing at the fish store either ... but that doesn't help much. Oh well. If it happens again, we'll talk to them -- tell me what's fresh, and I'll have it. If nothing's fresh, I'll happily have Udon soup ... but don't serve me un-fresh sushi.
We're in Beckley now, having arrived a little after 4:30. The travel was easy, sunny and warm (over 90F), no snow on the roads. Of course there still may be snow in Buffalo (ha ... Sue) ... but we'll divert if necessary. The state troopers were out in force in every state, but I set my cruise control at 5-7 over the limit and they did not bother me, whether at radar traps or overtaking.
Tomorrow's travel is 50 miles longer than today and of course there's the border to go through. We'll take a break and stop in Oakville, letting Abby romp with Mya for a few minutes and visiting with Stef.
Tonight we'll eat at the Outback Steakhouse -- our favorite here in Beckley. There's everything within a couple of hundred yards -- McD;s, Pizza Hut, Applebees, Outback, IHOP -- and more. We've actually never been unpleasantly surprised by our dinner at the Outback ... perhaps that's because we only eat there every six months and always order the same thing ?
We're out of withdrawal -- we've had no TV for several days because we didn't bring a satellite receiver to FL this time. I probably should have -- Sandy has gone into HGTV withdrawal. Shivering, shaking -- it's terrible to watch :). Right now we're watching the tail-end of Doc Hollywood -- an amusing Michael J. Fox move -- drinking a glass of wine -- well, one each. Sandy gave me a Father's Day card -- a great Snoopy one. Stef called ... I'll probably hear from David and Jeffrey later. One or both of them might have called the home number, but of course we're not there.
Abby is anxious for dinner, but she'll have to wait a few more minutes.
That's it for now ....
