What's the difference between biking a thousand miles and driving a thousand miles ? In our case, the driving is about getting there while the biking is about the journey. Life is about the journey ... the last couple of days has been about getting there.
We are in Florida now. It was a wet drive yesterday until we got to Florida, at which point we drove out of the rain. Ida never hit NSB but we were certainly driving through it on the way down. The rain was only slow-down heavy a couple of times, but it was wind driven. We've driven through much heavier rain ... but it's never fun.
When we got down here it was 83F. What a pleasure it is to unload the car in warmth and no stairs. I know that I'm repeating myself from other times arriving here but it's a delight each time. Abby ran around and inspected the property while I unloaded and Sandy organized.
The guest bathroom is complete -- complete, that is, except for what I have to do. I have to replace the baseboard and do some painting. Before that, however, I have to tackle the master bath because Jeff will be continuing work in there next week. He did get started while we were away, removing the tiles. He didn't move the vanity so those tiles will come off shortly ... my next job.
Also in my court is removing the wall tiles around the tub. After that's done I'll take out the vanity, the mirror, run some new wiring so that we have a receptacle on both sides of the vanity ... the only urgent thing is the wall tiles. I'm going to do that today.
Yes, I'll do the wall tiles today. No, I won't go biking. No, we won't go for a boat ride. Biking will wait until tomorrow; boating will wait for the weekend. I will get over to the marina and see how the boat cover fared. If Al isn't busy I'll get him to move the boat to a work rack and I'll remove the cover.
Everything is ship-shape down here. My first tasks after arriving were:
1) adjust the air pressure in the tires of both cars. They are now fit to drive -- the X5 to unladen pressure and the M5 down from shipping pressure.
2) mix up some ant spray and go around the house. We didn't see any ants inside, which is a good thing, but there were lots of ant hills.
3) plug in the external SATA disk drive and turn on the computer. That works well for transporting my Windows XP environment.
4) have a glass of wine. By that time it was after 5pm -- yes 5pm here, not somewhere well east of here :).
On our way down we stopped for gas and lo and behold, it was also the exit for the Le Crueset store. It was pouring rain but we went in anyway. Sandy has been wanting to stop there. The store isn't much larger than the billboards but it's packed with stuff ... and Sandy bought a Dutch Oven -- but of course they call it a "French Oven" ... surprise ?
That's about it. I didn't have to move any firewood. We went to the Sushi place for dinner. Sandy had her usual sushi selection; I had Udon Soup. I was stuffed.
Onward ...
