When was the last time I wrote about biking ? 5? 6? weeks ago ? Well, I certainly noticed two things yesterday:
1) the time OFF the bike; and
2) the 20-25 mph headwind
It's easiest to measure headwind when it's a tail wind. How fast do you have to go to not feel wind in your face ... well, on the way back I was going 23.8 when I looked down and there was still wind at my back. Had I been in better shape, i.e. without the "vacation" from being on the bike and not worn out by the headwind, I might have gone faster.
I do this every time I have a break from cycling ... groan, that is, because it's so hard to get rolling again. The first couple of miles along Saxon my legs were saying -- "oh no, not this again". After about 5 miles they had begrudgingly given in and moving me along at a meagre 12 mph against the headwind but by the turnaround point, 35+ miles, they had settled into a dull ache.
I've tried working my way up and it doesn't get any easier; it prolongs the inevitable, tough, 70+ mile ride. Now that it's over, I'll feel better ... tomorrow ... I think !
Apart from the legs complaining, and the butt just a little bit, it was great to get riding again. I've missed the exercise. Next week, late in the week, I'll do a 200km Permanent to chalk one up for November.
Sandy ran her errands yesterday -- followup appointment at the kidney stone center, Whole Foods -- and was home before me. We watched some SG1 -- this time part of a supplemental DVD since we're basically through the re-runs of the first 8 seasons. There are four supplemental DVDs so it will take us a couple of weeks to watch it all. These are interviews, out-takes etc. and quite funny to watch.
For dinner we had tuna, delicious as usual, with peas (a lazy day) and rice (double lazy).
I went over to NCM to see how the boat cover had fared. From the looks of things, it's ok, but I'll know for certain this morning when I have them put the boat on a work rack. I cannot tell for sure if there is water pooled on it. I've got to take the cover off and also install the registration numbers and FL tag that came in the mail while we were away. We're now official. We might get stopped on the water, but not because we're lacking up-to-date registration.
The forecast for the next few days is 78F, 79F, 79F, 77F, 76F ... lovely weather for all kinds of activities -- like working in the Master Bath ??
Today -- boating; tomorrow -- biking; Monday -- Master Bath ... and then, who knows !
Onward !
