Yes another season is over. Yes, Bambi is safe from the Great White Hunters of the cottage.
We headed down the lake yesterday in -4C temperatures, sat for a few hours, saw nothing. We came back home, showered, ate lunch, warmed up, went out back and sat for a few more hours, saw nothing. I take that back, Alex saw recent buck signs where he was sitting. We don't have to take those to the butcher :).
Some more pool; pork loin; Return of the King (not all) and the day was done. Up early again today, once it was light Alex drove the 4-wheeler to the ESS Narrows pulling the Whaler trailer while I drove the Whaler, we loaded that up and brought it back. Alex then packed his worldly goods and left around 8:30.
Another cottage season is over, other than cleanup during the next two days.
We had some miserable weather this week -- the upcoming week is supposed to be in the 50's without rain other than Monday ... figures. Next year we're talking about coming up during the bow season, which will necessitate me getting a bow. The season is longer (starts earlier and ends later); there's no one else in the woods; if we get out before the moose season the deer won't have been spooked. That's the theory anyway. The bottom line is that we're both sore and stiff from sitting in awkward positions in the cold and damp for a week and want to try something different.
I now have work to do, with numerous small projects from replacing one shingle to winterizing the Whaler to organizing the barn and garage for their winter tenants. It doesn't sound like much but I'll be busy. We plan to leave Monday morning, needing to get to the optometrist to pick up my new glasses before they close. The plan is then to leave early on Tuesday and be in our other home on Wednesday. That's the plan.
Sandy has invited Jim and Bonnie over for a drink later today. Hopefully we'll see them again in a month if our time here coincides with their time, i.e. they haven't gone down to Pam's or something.
Onward ...
