The 9th went pretty much as planned, other than driving the long way around to Niagara Falls due to the queues at the Queenston/Lewiston and Rainbow bridges. It adds 20-25 minutes to take the Peace Bridge and then take I190 back to Niagara Falls but that was better than the "30-60" minute waits quoted on the border information telephone number.
We stopped at David's for 45 minutes, eating the salads that we'd picked up at the grocery store and hearing news of the imminent closing of the Cadet Cleaners deal. It's not a huge deal but it certainly has found a way to make the lawyers money !
The day produced rain on and off for much of Ontario, heavy at times in Toronto -- just as I needed to get back to the car to pick up Sandy -- but not a lot up here. Unfortunately, however, it did rain overnight, so there will be no staining today.
Oh yes -- we stopped at a RONA right by the QEW in Grimsby, who had the stain base in stock, so we waited while they mixed it up. We'd originally planned to stop in Oakville but were able to bypass that part of the QEW and the usual heavy traffic.
Oh yes more -- our plan on the way back had been revised somewhat because we were going to stop at the optometrist for a small adjustment to my new glasses, but I changed my mind. I can wear them as is for the next month.
On the glasses front, I knew as soon as I looked in the mirror that there was a problem. So did the lady helping me. The glass is smaller than my current "regular" glasses, even though the frame is the same size. Being frameless glasses, they'd been supplied with a smaller demo lens. Anyway, the optometrist is ordering new lenses that will be installed when we get back from Europe. They'll be 3mm deeper (taller?) -- possible with these frameless jobs -- but of course no wider. I hadn't even realized how the lenses are held in place ... there's a small wire running in a groove around the bottom of the lens that is barely visible with the tinted lenses.
Abby was happy to get home ... she always is. There wasn't much luggage to bring down; the computer started right up; on with the water; out with a beer / glass of wine; some windows open ... day is done.
Onward !
