Actually I'm a day ahead of myself. The fireworks were this morning as I burned the two piles of brush from dropping the hemlock.
We're not allowed to burn during the daytime at this time of year so I started right after 6am. First of all I moved the one pile off the rocky spot where I do my burning then started a small pile, gradually adding branches. By dawn it was mostly coals, the mostly dry hemlock branches burning quickly.
As they burned, sparks shot into the sky for at least 30 meters and in the dark that was quite pretty. The heat of the fire creates quite an updraft, so the sparks go high. They burn out long before they reach their summit, coming down as soft ash -- mostly dust.
So that was this morning ...
Yesterday I did get out for a ride. A little cool but not so cool that I needed anything other than long sleeves. By the weekend it's going to be even warmer so I'm going to take advantage of this warm dry weather.
Sandy went into Sudbury, returning with a turkey and multiple, multiple bags and boxes of stuff from Costco, The Independent Store and Tarinis ... perhaps others. How many are we feeding ? For how many days ? David et al will only be here for one night's dinner but I guess we're now well stocked. I think that the grocery shopping was partly catharsis, a return to normalcy.
We had one of the products of her trip, pork chops, for dinner. That, along with the ratatouille made the day before with leftover veggies pre our trip to Reading and roast potatoes on the barbie and we were filled. There's some leftover ratatouille for me to finish up ... or Sandy ... at lunch.
Sandy tried to get a replacement wheelbarrow wheel but was unsuccessful. She went to Canadian Tire and they sent her to another place on the Kingsway, but she'd already been there and didn't want to go back. She doesn't remember the name of the place ... not sure what I'll do. Perhaps I'll go to Parry Sound today ... perhaps. I need it to be able to do anything with all that hemlock piled on both sides of the driveway.
The sun is up; the wind is too. It's due to the wind that they don't want burning during the day.
Onward ...
