Oct 5 - here, there and everywhere

After an early lunch (I always have an early lunch), I headed down to Parry Sound. I had a list and the list grew as I drove.

The main thing on my list -- a wheelbarrow wheel, took me into a number of stores -- Home Hardware, Rona, Canadian Tire and Home Depot. I kept hitting more stores because I wasn't finding it, of course. Everyone stocks 6" and 8" wheelbarrow wheel assemblies (axle and tire) but no-one sells the 4" version. I'm beginning to think that my Dad's little wheelbarrow might end up in the dump.

The really great thing about this wheelbarrow is its size and weight. I carry (carried) it up the stairs over and over and over again hauling firewood. I doubt if I'll find another that is as lightweight. Even the ones with a poly barrow are not as light. I was tempted to buy one yesterday, on special for approximately double the price of a 6" wheel. I really knew at that point that I was headed in that direction, just didn't want to admit it.

I did hit other stores yesterday and did accomplish some things. Shoppers Drug Mart for a birthday card, the Honda dealer located by Enterprise Car Rental on Parry Sound Drive for an oil filter for the 4-wheeler (thanks Jason), the aforementioned Canadian Tire for motorcycle oil, motor oil, a new hard hat (the internal support on my Dad's disintegrated the other day), steel toed work boots, windshield washer antifreeze, Walmart (more and cheaper motor oil), I think that's it.

The work boots are in the close-the-barn-door-too-late category. I dropped a piece of wood, albeit a small one, on my right foot middle toe when doing the splitting the other day. It was the last piece that I was splitting and I didn't dance quickly enough. I didn't break the toe but it is a nice colour. Unfortunately, the boots that seemed to fit in CT don't, or at least that's my read at this point. The left one fits (that's my larger foot) but the right one has too much slop. It feels a full size too large where the left foot is just right. I know for sure that if I downsize an entire size, the left one won't fit. I'll wear them around the living room for a while and decide today.

The days have been glorious, sunny and warm. This morning it was cool though, at 33F. It was likewise cool in here, so I've got a fire going. Jason is coming up tonight so we'll have to open his place, since it will be cooler inside than out.

I didn't check the computer last night but see this morning that Steve Jobs upstaged Sarah Palin. Who will create the next new thing, delivering to a market unaware of its need ? There is no-one out there at present whose mere presence on the stage convinced people that they needed whatever he held in his hand. No doubt Apple stock will take a beating this morning, and so, probably, the DJIA and Nasdaq.

Today ... perhaps a bike ride, we'll see.

Onward.
