Nov 10 - should have been on the water !

As it turned out, the day before and after our day (couple of hours) on the water were the nicest days. The cloudy day would have been fine for cycling, but oh well.

However, it was a wonderful cycling day. 78F, sunny, moderate winds form the NW and then NE, the only thing that I could have asked for was a more northerly component on the return trip. The day turned out so hot that the E component overwhelmed the N.

In fact, that E component blowing from the relatively cool (70F) ocean to the warm land in the face of a W wind created an interesting effect. Riding south along A1A north of Ormond Beach, there's a bluff/dunes created by the waves and the road is about 6' lower than the dunes with the dunes about 20' higher than the water. The land-bound air sweeps up the dune, creating an updraft, and two people with para-sails were having a blast. For a while they were simply hovering over the dune, like birds, 50'-100' up and then sailed up and over, gaining even more altitude. As I approached them, first seeing them about a half-mile off, I wasn't sure whether they were being towed by a boat with a long leash, a car on the beach or large kites or ultra-lights.

I find that more and more suppliers are using USPS these days or maybe it's just what I'm buying. I had two deliveries yesterday, a long HDMI cable for connecting my laptop to the TV for Netflix-type use and the ignition wire parts for the little Whaler. They both came by snail mail. I also have the X5 thermostat that was delivered two days ago but I'm still awaiting the tools to remove the fan clutch. Sandy has a dermatology appointment this morning (actually a facial) and she's going to pickup a gallon of BMW coolant on the way back. I already have my gallon of distilled water so I'm just waiting for the tools.

I'll try out the ignition wires this morning. I was tempted to do so yesterday but opted to not find out that this does not solve the problem. I don't have high hopes on this one but it was cheap and worth a try.

We had Red Snapper for dinner last night accompanied by rice and beans. The night before we celebrated, going over to SYC for dinner. We were celebrating renting the Saxon house, which hopefully will come to pass on November 18th. The agent has pro-rated Nov rent, December rent and 1 month rent security deposit in hand along with the dog fee of $250, so it's pretty clear that they want our house !

I guess that's about it ...

... except that I have to mention Alexander. He's constantly on my mind. The other day I was entering all the transactions into Quicken for my Canadian Visa card, having not done so for the past three months and with a ton of said transactions having occurred in France and Italy, and got to a transaction from 9/22 from the Port Loring HBC (used to be Timbr Mart). It brought back memories, because I was in there buying more cement for the work on that rock wall, and I immediately flushed, broke out into a sweat, because that was the last thing that I was doing when the world changed.

I cannot escape the feeling that had we done something differently, i.e. gone down to Reading PA after getting back from France, that we somehow would have changed the flow of events that culminated in the random act of SIDS. Deep down I know that it's silly. Deep down I know that we're probably more likely to be involved in a car accident than to have SIDS strike one of our grandchildren, but there you have it, the irrational overcomes the rational. I know that it's a lot worse for Sara and Jeffrey. Medical assurances to the contrary, they will always wonder whether there was something that they could have done to prevent this from happening to their Alexander.

As I type this I have a headache from the thoughts chasing themselves through my mind.

We will move onward, but never really move on.
