Dec 29 - having a blast !

I made a run into Loring, picking up some food items at the General Store. By the time I got back, David had arrived and was unloading.

It's a good thing that we have a big house. People can spread out and it's not bedlam ! Before long "the kids" -- Megan, Chase and Emma -- were downstairs playing pool. I went down at one point and Emma told me to go back upstairs :).

The pool game didn't last long though. It was lunch time and then everyone, ladies excluded, piled outside. Sandy, Sara and Kim had some peace inside while David, Jeffrey and Chase played hockey on the rink and Megan and Emma played on the ice.

With the lake level falling, ice piles up along the shore. The pieces are huge and thick. Chase and I had stood up a triangular piece of the ice two days before; Jeffrey completed the picture with another couple of pieces -- our ice Inuksuk was complete !

From hockey they went to sledding, going on and on and on. Late in the day I did some more flooding on the "rink" and Chase was outside sledding some more. He can't get enough of the outdoors. We were joking at the dinner table that he wants to be adopted by David and Kim !

Dinner was another Sandy affair, a very large peameal cooked in the oven. In this weather that's a very efficient exercise because no heat is wasted ! We ate the entire thing, save a couple of small pieces that wouldn't even make half a sandwich.

My white bread is a hit and I have to keep making it for lunches and dinners. We had date squares for desert .... I'll probably have to make more. The rice krispy cookies are dwindling.

Stef's plan is to come up today, which will be Christmas at the Thompson's. That also means turkey, so Sandy will be busy in the kitchen.

It's 18F / -7C outside, quite a bit warmer than it's been. That warm trend will be with us for a couple of days and then we have another plunge into the cold. It looks like we got a cm or so of snow overnight, light fluffy stuff that I could use the leaf blower to clear, if I could get that started in the cold, and perhaps another cm on the way. The Doppler is clear at this point, the overnight flurry having moved through.

I'll be running into town again, picking up coffee that's been delivered as well as another couple of grocery items, minnows if they're open and gas for the machines. Actually, before I pick up gas I should check in the boathouse and see what's in the Whaler, use that first.

I'll have to start my fondue meat marinade today too, because I always like to give that 24 hours. We are going to fondue tomorrow night, New Years Eve.

Onward ...
