On Thursday, Jerry and I headed into Orlando after my session with John at the gym. Our destination was the Pearl Izumi outlet store at the outlets.
Jerry picked up some cycling shorts and a t-shirt there; we both picked up running shoes at New Balance; I picked up something at the Disney Store. We found the food court, had lunch and headed home.
The day was hot; the predicted showers never came. One rest day was complete.
Yesterday, Friday, I had that nurse's appointment at 7:00 a.m. She was early -- good thing -- because it took longer than I had expected. Regardless, by 7:30 she was gone; I was wolfing down breakfast; we were both getting ready to head out.
We met up with Harris at his driveway and rode over to the start of the bicycle club rides. We had our brisk 30 mile ride, Jerry struggling a bit at the speed due to having the compact crankset on the bike he had prepped for today's brevet. I rode the Lynskey with the normal 53/39 and was also running out of gears ... finally realized that I was on the small chainring ... duh. I have a much faster cadence than Jerry anyway, so the compact crankset at 23 mph isn't a problem.
We didn't get rained on, but rain passed in front of us and we had wet roads. Sandy wanted to go boating, figuring that she could rely on the forecast of rain at 2pm ... so we called the marina and had the boat put in. All was fine until we got to the island, walked a few minutes and then got dumped on. That kind of killed our walk on the beach !
From there we went to Inlet Harbor, as I figured that we'd let the rain pass by and be able to get the boat onto the forklift. That worked out well. Al was able to get us out of the water and cleaned up.
Once home, the skies opened and there was a good light show. In spite of that, we went to the club for dinner ... but no sooner got there than the power went out. They have a gas grill so that didn't affect us and the light went back on just before we went home.
Early to bed ... early to ride ... I was up at 1:30 and Jerry just got up at 2:00. We'll leave here at 3am.
Onward ! Wet-ward ? It looks like we'll get rained on today !
