I had my sixth, and perhaps final, physio appointment yesterday. He got me on the arm-cycle for 5-6 minutes to warm up the shoulder, gave me a couple of new stretching and strengthening exercises and told me to keep at it for the next 30 days and then, if I was still having problems, see my Doc and come back.
We talked about impingement, bone spurs etc. There could be other things going on that wouldn't be known without an MRI. I guess the bottom line for me is that I'm prepared to live with quite a lot of pain before even thinking about an operation. Hopefully continued work at stretching and strengthening will obviate the need for anything else.
It still hurts in certain places in the rotation. It still wakes me up at night. I guess that he feels that I've made enough progress and I'm doing well enough on my own that I should just keep on doing what I'm doing. Ok.
Jerry and I headed out a little after 9am, planning on doing about 150 miles. That didn't last long. Jerry's knee was bothering him a little so we decided to take it easy and plan on the Titusville turnaround. Even so, the wind picked up and it was a struggle to get there. When I say picked up, it REALLY picked up. Had we continued with the original plan, we wouldn't have been home before dark. As it was, we dawdled along because Jerry's leg was cramping up. I've been there ... I know what it's like.
Today ... not sure. We've got rain showers all around us so we might just get out for a short ride. We'll see what it looks like and see how Jerry's knee is doing.
My insoles arrived. I trimmed the ends -- they were expected to be a little long -- and they're in the shoes. Any riding that I do will also be carrying the old insoles. There's an expectation of break-in (my foot) over the first few rides.
Sandy has gym early today; an introduction to Yoga with her trainer. I've got John at 8am. Then we'll see about cycling.
Kylie and Beth arrive tonight. I've decided to go with Sandy. I can get some sleep before we leave and then snooze in the carpool parking lot when Sandy is inside waiting for the girls.
Onward ...
