Mar 23 - naked and wet

No, I wasn't in the shower, nor are they related.

I got organized to go biking, took off my watch and the band came apart ... rats.  I knew that it was deteriorating, since it was getting looser and looser -- stretching at the pins.  I guess that it's better that it came apart in the bathroom rather than going down some hill at high speed on the bike ?  Perhaps.  Had I really lost it, I'd have an excuse to buy another.

The band is a replacement, a knock-off from China.  I'd bought it 2.5 years ago after a year or two of keeping the original one afloat.  I didn't expect it to last forever, nor did it.  I'm hard on my bands because I wear a watch all the time, even when I'm working.

I've had this watch for 15-19+ years now, I guess.  It's definitely a PB watch (pre-blog).  It's seen a lot of action.  It's early days were easy as I was working with my head.  It's last 10 years have been hard, as I've been working with my hands :).

So ... I ordered another band but didn't notice until I got the confirmation that the new one is alternating polished and brushed.  I emailed them because I'd rather the polished but if that's all that they have, I'll go with it.  Perhaps the existing one can be fixed but as I said, it's wearing and even if that pin can be fixed, it will go somewhere else soon.

Then comes the wet part.  I knew that I was at risk of getting wet on my ride with thunderstorms all around but was hoping for the best.  As I pushed hard northward on US 1 to my finish point at the Citgo at Canal St, big drops were coming down.  I got my receipt and went back out into thunder and a downpour.  More rats.  15 minutes ... that's all I needed was 15 minutes !  Isn't hindsight great ?  I'd have left 15 minutes earlier, had I known !

Into the shower I went; into the washer went my clothes.  Later, as I was browsing on the computer, I saw that the BC Randonneurs are planning on running the VanIsle 1200 next year -- Vancouver Island -- that might very well be my target.  I was tempted to get it on the blog schedule but didn't.

What I did do, though, is fix the schedule for Jeffrey's arrival and departure.  Sheryl pointed out to Sandy that the dates were wrong.  I guess that I'd simply put a placeholder in for the week leading up to Easter and hadn't fixed it when the flights were actually booked.

As I said to Sandy -- the blog is always accurate in retrospect but as a predictor of future behavior, not.

Bev loved the Easter bread, so she said in an email to us.  Great !  Another Easter Bread fan !  I'll go into business soon !

We had a stir fry for dinner -- some of the steak that we had with Jerry and the girls along with leftover roasted potatoes and zucchini.  This occupied three frying pans (ok, they're called saute pans now).  Whatever.

I just got back from Mass and Publix.  I picked up a whole turkey breast to grill for lunches since they didn't have any of those smoked turkeys -- too close to Easter and the fresh meat sections are taken up by hams.

Today ... not sure.  It's warm, humid with more storms in the area.

Onward !
