I went for a bike ride yesterday, leaving shortly before the gang. This was my first "regular" ride with the power meter so I was curious as to what I would see.
Obviously I'm a low wattage kind of guy. Into the gusty wind going south I averaged 133 to the turnaround at the 7-11. The wattage jumped around from the low 100's to 170's and 180's between pedal strokes with the wind gusts. It would go well over 200 when standing. There wasn't any climbing to measure my output then.
Heading home, I thought that I might increase the average but no, the average gradually dropped to 126. So that means, give or take, I averaged just under 120 on the way home.
This gives me a benchmark. Now I need to a) do some intervals with much higher wattage and b) increase this average. It will be interesting to see what happens on the 600k this coming weekend, which is going to be crazy windy.
I had left late -- around 1pm, so I was home late. The house was quiet. We watched some law and order. We fended for ourselves for dinner.
