Sometimes it seems that way.
The only progress from a kitchen standpoint was delivery of a bunch of cabinets. Since we'd postponed Vic's delivery a couple of times, he'd put his men on something else. That's fair enough.
Basically we're four days behind, give or take, about three of those due to the plasterer -- 1-2 days sitting around and a day longer than expected, in the kitchen finishing. The other day would be the tiler, taking three days in the kitchen instead of two. In both cases, the delays are because we're not dealing directly with the contractors. Jim's estimate of one-day for the plasterer in the kitchen was wrong. Jeff's estimate of two days for tiling the kitchen was wrong. C'est la vie.
We also changed direction on the tiling work yesterday. The stair stringer is supposed to be installed on Monday. Then we heard that it might be Tuesday, which turned out to be misinformation, but in any event, we decided to finish up the tiling rather than deal with further possible delays. Also, the tiler, AP, said that they have another job immediately afterwards, of 2000 sf, so he might be gone for a while, if we wait until Tuesday to resume the tiling work.
The tiling will be finished today. The grouting will either take place today or tomorrow. There's not a lot of tile left to lay, just some outer edges, fiddly stuff.
As for the painting, it will take place after everything else is done. Who knows. Since he's spraying the ceilings, everything has to be masked. It takes him an entire day to mask all windows, "stuff" and floors. He also sprays the walls, I guess, as a primer coat with the same color, which will be the Benjamin Moore "Cloud White". I don't know what we'll do in the meantime - eat out some more, I guess !
Speaking of which, we went to the Thai restaurant on Wednesday night with Harris and Debbie. Last night we ate at the SYC. Tonight, I think that we're planning on pizza ... but hopefully we'll have a kitchen to work with on the weekend. All we really need is the sink cabinet, sink and a plywood cabinet in that area and we can manage.
As I write this, I'm wondering if we should simply paint the kitchen on the weekend. That way any spray painting and masking would only involve the living room / loft. That would give us a place to live for the 2-3 days that the painting takes. It's something to think about. I could have primed that ceiling yesterday and be painting the ceiling and walls rather than writing this blog ! Sandy has already primed the walls. Grrr.
Oh well.
Onward. It's actually going pretty quickly but only seems slow when nothing is happening, or rather, when what I want isn't happening !
