Oct 24 - all alone

There were no contractors yesterday; none planned and none, none, none.

I did some plumbing, setting up the "cold side" of my under-sink plumbing.  I'll have to take a picture of my self-made manifold.  I've laid out the "hot side" and that will come soon.  I have more glue-sniffing ahead of me !

Whoops -- I forgot -- the granite people came and took measurements and made a template of the island.  Since they didn't actually do any work here, they don't count.  We're looking at two weeks for the granite, as expected.

I put cover plates on switches and receptacles in the kitchen, wired the island, picked up drain plumbing for the island and cut some pieces but all that will have to wait until the granite and sink are in place.

I took down the ceiling fan in the living room, expecting to hang the new fan but then found that it only operates with a remote control.  That's a non-starter with me.  I threw out the remote controls for all the upstairs fans.  Nope, I want wired-to-the-wall.  The wires are in place.

I called the manufacturer and they said that the remote receiver is built-into the motor and there's no way to get around that.  My first clue was that there was only one pair of wires coming out of the fan, when I expected two.

In the process I also figured out what that dead switch is at the entrance to the dining room -- it runs to a wire in the fan/light box that's not attached.  Apparently they'd put that fixture in place and opted to use the pull-chain.  I'll change that !

What else ... time at Home Depot picking out plumbing etc.  I now have some stuff to take back -- the eyeball pot light that I bought yesterday was the wrong size, oh well.  The wall grates were the wrong size, more oh well.

So ... today, hopefully, I'll go for a bike ride.  It's cool outside right now -- 60F -- the coldest that it's been since we returned to Florida.  The high today is expected to be 78F, however, so that's great for biking.

Vic is supposed to come this morning with a trial-box for the beam and vent piping over the cupboards.  Duane might show up but if not today, then Monday.  The cupboard doors are expected for next Tuesday.  Finishing touches always take time ...

Onward !
