Naturally there were no contractors here on the weekend -- well, not quite naturally, since it did happen to finish up the tiling. I had some things to do, also naturally ...
First off, I had to get out for a bike ride ! I did that on Saturday.
I re-did the temporary counter on the island and set it up so that Sandy could use the top drawers which had been blocked by 2x4's holding the pieces together. We also tried, somewhat successfully, to cover it with sticky plastic stuff. It's so-so but at least easier to keep clean now.
With the drawers accessible, Sandy was able to completely empty Vic's carts and they are back in our bathroom empty.
I went to watch TV on Saturday night in the bedroom and found that the old Sony CRT TV was dead. Huh ? I'd watched it right before we started construction so why would it be dead ? Anyway, it wouldn't respond to the power button no matter where it was plugged in -- power button or remote. It's now sitting waiting for the garbage. I finally broke down and picked up a small LED TV for the bedroom and a wall mount; both Walmart purchases. They seemed to have the cheapest price for that 32" LG TV, $258 ... not too bad.
I finished off the three LED pots. The first two were accessible from Duane's stepladder. The third, by the fireplace, was only accessible with the extension ladder. That wasn't easy. I practically had to go bum-to-the-ladder to reach it. I managed to do the work one-handed though.
I also got the new smoke alarm installed. The electrical rough-in was in place. It's also way, way up there by the ceiling over the base of the stairs. That's the location that code specifies and of course, code also specifies that it must have a battery backup. That means that when the battery needs replacing, I'll have to buy an extension ladder. Great.
There's more. Two days went by.
Oh yes, I roughed up the two matching covers for the beam and vent hood pipe with wood and drywall. I need to see Vic, hopefully this a.m., and will finish that up.
Today ... hopefully painting. I doubt if they'll finish up today but I'll ask them to make the walls first priority so that we can start moving furniture. The doors can take the back-seat.
I have an 11:30 appointment with my GP. She thinks that we're going to discuss my blood test results where she'll complain about my cholesterol and mercury, both of which are lower than they've been in the past. I plan to talk to her about my shoulder and elbow.
Onward ...
