Nov 4 - some progress, but no doors

Paint dries quicker than this kitchen is getting finished !

At 10am, getting antsy, I called Vic's shop number.  I'd called his mobile a little while earlier and left a message.  Bill answered and said that the doors would be ready to install on Wednesday.  He said that "nobody asked me when they'd be ready" ... great.  However, he did say that Charlie would be over later because he had about 3/4 of a day work on crown, light rails etc.

Not wanting to hang around and be more frustrated, I got organized and headed out into the teeth of this blowing-like-a-banshee wind.  That was quite a struggle but eventually I made it around.  It was almost due east so there were times when it was neutral because I was sheltered, but it was ever a tail-wind for more than a hundred feet.  It's still blowing this morning !

I almost got rained upon but came through after the rain.  I'd forgotten what it was like NOT to have a rack on the back or fenders (I've never had fenders) -- yes, your butt gets wet from the spray coming up.  Perhaps I should use the seatpost rack on this bike !

When I got back around 4:30, Charlie was still working.  He'd put up all the crown but two little pieces (he'd forgotten those, as I found out later) and was in the process of installing the glass shelves in the two corner cabinets.  That done, he headed out.  Sandy can now empty our bedroom of glassware.  That is progress.

I'm going to make up my own "punch list" for whoever comes on Wednesday -- likely Mike.

Charlie also did the light rails, so I can go ahead and pick up the under cabinet lighting and do that deed.  I've got to call Sam to check on the progress of the stairs and the granite people to see when they're likely going to install.

Today I'll start work on the trim, doing the doors first in the kitchen and then the baseboard.  With that complete, the kitchen will be finished once we have doors and granite ... and I finish the plumbing !

Oh yes, I forgot -- before all this activity, I'd gone over to Lowes and picked up some 8' pieces of 3.25" and 5.25" baseboard, the former being what we're using as door casing, the latter being the actual baseboard.  It looks ok, based on me holding up a piece against a door frame.  I need more of this ... and longer.  The sliding doors are wider than 8' at the top, so I need a few 10' pieces, and Lowes actually has them in that length.  I need three 16' pieces of baseboard, I think, if I want to do the long runs in the living room with one piece.  I also need the 1x8 for the top lighted area along the garage-side of the living room.

This is end-game stuff, thankfully !

What else ... adoption legal language being debated, so not finalized yet.  Hopefully they'll come to some agreement today.

Onward ?
