Nov 3 - back to 3

We had breakfast at the SYC, an unbeatable value, and then Jason, Lo and Kim headed to Orlando.  We'll likely see them again during their Florida stay.  We were all, including Abby, sorry to see them leave !

I went over to HD to look at door casing and baseboard but came  back with two ceiling fans for the upper level deck.  I wasn't happy with what HD had ... so I didn't buy any.

The 5.25" baseboard at HD, in the profile that we're looking at, only comes in primed MDF.  It doesn't have a nice finish along the rounded edge.  It's also a royal pain, being so flexible that it touches the floor on both sides of the cart, with 16 foot pieces.  What we're going to use for door trim is the same profile, only 3:25".  It comes in "stain grade", primed finger joint pine and primed MDF.  None of this comes in contractor pricing so you're paying by the foot, which makes it quite expensive.

Sandy, meanwhile, was at Lowes.  She called me from there and put the guy on the phone who went through their contractor pricing for this stuff.  They have the primed finger-joint 5:25" baseboard.  It's more expensive but has a nicer finish.  They don't sell the 5:25" in contractor pricing but they do sell the 3:25", so that's better at least.  However, as I now look closely at those numbers, I'm not buying enough pieces to get the contractor pricing but their prices are better than HD, especially for the 3.25" stuff.  I'll pick up a few pieces and do a door or two to ensure that we like the look.

The fans that I brought home are designed for wet locations, which is what we need outside.  They are also aluminum, which will last longer in that environment.  Salt attacks everything but perhaps they'll stay looking good longer.  I started installing them but need some longer screws which I'll pick up this a.m.

Hopefully Vic and Mike will be here this morning.  If not ... well, we're running out of patience !  This week should be a block-buster week with the kitchen finished, including granite.  Where we'll be with the stairs remains to be seen.  I'll have to check with Sam.  Once the treads are in place he can do the railings.

I'll go for a ride today, hopefully.  I probably should have gone yesterday.  It's going to be a bit of a challenge, with the winds at 18mph.  They've been blowing strongly all night long so there's no getting out there before the wind picks up !

I installed another drive in my PC yesterday, a 1TB internal.  I'd been running out of room on my secondary drive so I needed to separate my weekly backup files from everything else.  The weekly backup went without a hitch last night so I'm in good shape.  I am at the limit as far as SATA slots though and contemplating putting an expansion cards.  Perhaps I'll hold off.  Sometime in the next while I have to bring my external boot drive in synch with the internal boot drive.

Onward ?
