Dec 6 - what the heck ?

It pays to get up early.  There was a strange noise out in the street, like a truck dragging a heavy metal dumpster ... not sure how else to describe it.

I went downstairs to see what was going on -- after all, it's before 5am -- and found that one of my sprinkler heads had popped and I had a 20 foot geyser that was then coming down on the hood of the X5.  That's what was making that metal pounding noise.  Great.

I went into the garage and advanced the sprinkler cycle.  I'll check it out when it's daylight.  That's the darn trouble with these things; they can break when you're not here and produce large water bills.  I almost need routine maintenance once-a-week to run the sprinkler through it's four step cycle to see if there are any sprinkler heads misbehaving.

So that's today, a not-so-great-start -- or perhaps a great start because I now know that there's a problem !

This blog is supposed to be about yesterday.  Back up the clock ...

It was a largely uneventful day.  I called Jim to say that I guess we're ready for the final inspection.  I didn't hear anything back.  I'm sure that he'll be interested in seeing the final result.

Marda has a hopefully minor eye infection, so she booked an appointment at an ophthalmologist and I dropped her off.  The doctor is located on the North Causeway, so it's pretty close.  Sandy, meanwhile, was off for a hair appointment.  Marda called later when she was ready for pickup and we went to CVS to get a prescription filled.  Sandy called to say that she was delayed coming back because there was a motorcycle fatality on her route.  She went to the fish store and picked up Lane Snapper for dinner.

Earlier in the day I got Sandy's new (to her) iPhone setup.  I was able to go online with Verizon and simply switch her service from the old flip phone to the new phone.  I had expected to go into the Verizon store to do this but this was much better.  We played around with the phone and got email etc. setup correctly so she can now go back and forth between the iPad and iPhone.  She and Marda were sitting outside, shoulder-to-shoulder, sending messages to each other -- heck, I think that Sandy was sending messages to herself with the iPhone !

We had Gene and Judy over for snacks at 4:30; great neighbors.

Just before they came over, I assembled the four new kitchen stools that had arrived.  We're now awaiting the new table and chairs that are supposed to ship on Monday, perhaps arrive by end of week ?  I'm not sure.  If they don't, we'll have to make arrangements for Lisa to receive them.

The only thing left out of all this is the new lighting for the kitchen.  There will be two pendant lights over the island, replacing the temporary ceiling light that I put into place where the fan was ... likely a trip into the attic ... what fun.  The lights are awaiting pickup in Orlando at this point.  Sandy will retrieve them when she takes Marda to the airport on Tuesday.  I may or may not get them installed before we head north.

Well, there is one more thing ... we need some additional furniture for the living room and need to hang some things on the large bare walls.

Today -- we'll either go boating or I'll go for a bike ride.  If it's the latter, Marda's call, then I'll go biking tomorrow.  It doesn't matter.  I've got two or three more rides and then my season is over ... except, perhaps, for riding that Walmart bike with the fat tires ?  We'll see !

Onward !
