Gene's garage door is broken again. First it was the piece that rides on the rails, pulled by the chain. It appeared to have popped off. Further investigation found the source of the problem -- cable off the roller at the spring. Gene had straightened the bracket that attaches to the door, replacing the self tapping screws with bolts. I was leery about prying the plastic/nylon piece back onto the rails but the repair guy did just that. I didn't want to break anything especially since it's not mine !
A couple of months earlier, the cable had come off so this was a repeat visit. Yesterday the chain came off the sprocket at the motor and when I looked at it, a tooth is broken off. That probably happened at the same time as the second breakage, but we really don't know. I assume that spare parts are available for these things but they certainly aren't off-the-shelf items at Home Depot, so this is likely another service call. At this point he's probably spent more than the cost of a new unit. Arggh. Well, at least the garage door works this time, albeit manually.
Taking a look at Gene's garage door happened mid-banana. I got the urge and had been chopping down banana trees (not really trees but I don't know what else to call them). I chopped down all the large ones from the far clump. That is the taller stand of bananas. I'll likely cut some more, but that satisfied my urge. There are more tall ones in the shorter stand. Jimmy has "volunteered" to help me. It's clean-up time.
That was the back end of the day. At the front end, I laid the carpet in the loft. It's about 1 inch closer to the wall and 3 inches closer to the bedrooms than before. That's the best that I could do without moving the desk out of the way.
The middle of the day was filled with a bike ride. The wind was from the WWWWS, yes, just a little bit of south. I went south but didn't even go into the park. I didn't want that 5 mile stretch towards Titusville where I'd be heading straight into the teeth of the wind without any real payback.
This morning it's raining but, based on the Doppler, the worst will be through here by mid morning.
Onward ? Hopefully.
