Mar 7/8 - there and back

Jerry and I kind of hung around on Friday.  Without cycling on the agenda we were kind of at loose ends.

Jerry wanted to bring some grapefruits and oranges north, so we drove south to an outlet in Oak Hill.

I had wanted to visit Harbor Freight, so we headed to Daytona.  On the way back we stopped at the Daytona Flea Market.  Jim and Sheryl had visited, said that it was really something, but I had no idea.  It's huge !  It also has veggies so at some point I'll have to get there with Sandy.  Emma, Megan and Lauren could spend the day there for nothing and have as much fun exploring without spending the kind of money that Disney costs !

We had an early dinner, chicken breasts on the barbie, then Jerry and I headed to Gainesville.  Up at 2:30 a.m., we were ready to ride at 4a.m.

It was cold.  I don't know how low the temperature got but I barely made it through with what I was wearing.  Once it warmed up, it was a beautiful day for a ride.  The temperature hit 70F, it was sunny and windless.  I don't think that I've ever had a windless Florida ride.

It cooled down quickly as the sun set.  I'd made a very bad choice of jackets, one that didn't have vents.  I was riding in a steambath and alternately overheating and freezing.  I made it through without putting on my leg warmers and winter gloves that I'd been wearing in the morning, however.  We finished up at 8:28 p.m.

We ordered pizza into the room and I got a couple of hours sleep and then headed home, getting here just after 5a.m.  Of course with the start of daylight savings time, I lost an hour in that process.  At 2am precisely, my cell phone changed time and the Garmin nav changed the ETA.  Yes, electronics are wonderful.

Jerry called my phone a little before that to say that he was on the road.  I'm not sure how far he expected to get today but at least he started 2.5 hours closer to home.

I went to Mass and then had an hour snooze, feeling much better now, less "stretched".

Bill called a while ago to say to expect him and Colette around 3pm.  I expect that it will be closer to 4pm, but who knows.  Once they're here we'll talk about the agenda for the week.

Onward !
