On Wednesday, I don't know how we managed to ride without getting wet. On Thursday, with huge thunderstorms heading our way, we set out and while we did don our raincoats for a while due to some light rain, the heavy stuff hit ahead of us or behind us. Whew.
Riding along before the bridge to Titusville, Jerry heard a "ping". Sure enough, he'd broken a spoke. I had my trusty tool with me and loosened off the adjoining spokes so that the wheel didn't rub against the brake caliper and once we got home, replaced the spoke and re-trued the wheel. It's good that this happened before the 400k, not during !
Speaking of the 400k ... that's tomorrow. We've put in more than 800 kms over the past few days -- pretty good in my books -- and we're now ready. Jerry exercises enough all year round, with various activities, so it's simply a matter of getting in some long rides over the course of a few days.
We'll have an early dinner and then drive to Gainesville in two vehicles. The ride starts tomorrow at 4am and once we're finished, I'll clean up, get a few hours sleep and head home. Jerry will do the same, but heading home, in his case, is north, not south.
Last night's dinner was Costco rib steaks, quite good. They went with baked potatoes, also on the grill of course, and oven roasted broccoli.
Bill and Colette will set out tomorrow morning for NSB and arrive some time on Sunday, so I should get here before them ... just.
It looks like tomorrow's ride will start out cool. The predicted low tonight is 39F. That means that once we're out of the city of Gainesville, it's likely going to be close to freezing or below. The high is predicted to be 71F, so we'll be shedding clothing once the sun comes up.
Onward ? Yup.
