Jun 18 - Dublin, Ireland

Is there any other Dublin that matters ?

Getting out of Liverpool was a bear.  The Nav's were set to "no tolls", which was a mistake.  Around and around, rerouting, recalculating, often frozen at 99%.  I then figured out what was going on -- the tunnel has a toll.  Great.  Fix "avoidances" and get on with it !

So, we got through the tunnel.  The toll booths are setup to have an attendant at some who makes change but doesn't actually deduct the toll.  The bar didn't go up.  Why ?  needed to throw the change into the hopper.  I asked Sandy for the change and she handed it to me and I threw it into the hopper.  We thus paid 5 GBP for a 1.70 GBP (think that was the amount) toll.  Dumb dumb dummmmb.

From there to the ferry was easy.  We rolled up with an hour and a half to spare and were in no way the first in the queue.  They were just starting to unload the incoming ferry and with much time still to spare, we started to load.  I talked to an attendant -- the ferry holds about 150 cars plus busses etc., no big trucks.    On this voyage they were about half full.

Out of the car and into the lounge; you can't stay in the car.  One hour, fifty minutes later and we were at Dublin.  Traffic was quite heavy in Dublin but we made our way to the hotel.  Checked in, unloaded, parked, we went back into town but this time with the city bus.  Much less painful.  We wandered around a bit and then had dinner; now back at the room

We're here for another night before heading to Midleton for my ride check-in and, Saturday a.m., my ride.  I've got much food and drink to work off on this ride !  Good food; lots of Guinness and other beers.

Sandy, Sheryl and Jim have been sitting in our room planning their three days touring, likely to Galway then Belfast and then back to Dublin.  Time will certainly fly for them !

Onward !
