Today, August 1, was actually Matthew's due date. Instead, he graced us with his presence a week earlier and we were traveling north on the 1st. We were packed to the hilt with two carseats in the backseat and the "trunk" full to the ceiling on one side; Abby on the other. At one point we did have to make a sharp turn when exiting the h6:ighway and a box of stuff slid onto Abby. She didn't complain, simply looked up at me when I checked what was happening back there. I then used a bungee to tie that pile of stuff together and preclude any further mishaps.
Our chosen route wasn't the greatest. I84 was under construction almost the entire way in PA with one lane open. It kept moving for the most part, since there was no merging, but it wasn't fast. The other major slowdown was at the I87 exit from I87, north of Albany where the NY Thruway continues on I90. We crawled along for more than a mile getting to the toll booths.
The first order of business on the trip was stopping at the BofA ATM but it was closed. We didn't see any other BofA branches along the way so I'm still carrying a couple of checks in my briefcase.
We left around 8:30; arrived close to 6:30. We filled the tank just before the border, saving a few dollars. Otherwise we wouldn't have had to stop for fuel. I have more range with diesel. Speaking of which, diesel is quite a bit cheaper in PA compared to NY.
We only had one major stop; lunch. The girls at at McD's; we crossed the parking lot and hit the Subway; our fast food of choice.
Emma was good the whole trip, playing electronic games and whatever else. Zoe isn't much for amusing herself yet. She did watch a couple of movies on the iPad and had a one-hour sleep. Once at Sheryl's, she had a great time running in the grass in their orchard -- freedom at last !! The girls had been snacking much of the day and didn't really want or need dinner. It's not often that Zoe turns down food. This morning they're both up and happy. Zoe is playing with her toys and Emma is coloring.
We're in Hemmingford for the day today and then tomorrow we go to Aunt Kay's 100th birthday party. It's been a while since we've seen the entire family; should be fun.
Onward !
