Sep 11 - cooling down

I probably should have gone for a bike ride.  Now on the 12th it's even colder; 38F right now.  I did get on the trainer for a few minutes ... boy I hate that thing.  I immediately want to crank up the watts and I'm dripping, even though I have a fan running.

I did some puttering around.

To be able to watch Netflix downstairs, I finally put a female Cat5 jack on the wire coming out of the wall.  Using wireless wasn't working well.  The jack was already in place in the wiring closet in the den so I made up a couple of patch cables.  As usual, I spoiled a few RJ45 ends before getting the hang of it.  I need to buy some more of those; I'd forgotten that I was running low.

I had some skipping on the middle of my cassette (bicycle) so it was time to retire that one.  It wasn't chain-related; that had already been replaced.  I cleaned up the bike from it's workout in Virginia on the AA 1000k, in particular from the rain the first day.

I brought down some wood but hadn't started a fire as the house was still warm from the day before.  I just started a fire this morning.

I did some work on Randonneurs Ontario stuff, preparing for Sunday.  I talked to Phil Mowatt of CCN about the Sunshine 1200k as well as some RO issues.  I want to automate ride registration.

I also talked to Paul Mullen, the generator guy.  I'm trying to sort out generator location as well as hook-up.  If it wasn't for the gas plumbing difficulty, I'd do this myself.  I should talk to Superior today about them doing the plumbing ... not sure if that's something that they'd do.  I wonder if there's someone in Loring ... should call Steve this morning; he'd know.  Maybe my furnace guy in Sudbury ?  The electrical side of the generator installation is almost trivial.  It seems that the 11kw model isn't available in Ontario right now; not sure why.  Paul said that it's not an issue with Generac stock and I see that it's available in the U.S. for about the same price, less HST ... but of course I'd be paying HST on top of the prices that I see in Canada ... hmmm ... perhaps a trip to Buffalo is in order.  I could do a "ship to store" and pick it up down there, save a few hundred $.

So that's pretty much it.  This morning, with the cold air and warmer water, we have mist rolling down the lake.

Sandy should be back in the Philly area with Marda at this point; would have come back from New York yesterday.  I haven't heard anything from her.  Today she's supposed to have lunch with the girls-gang at Susie Pierce's  and then head north.  She's booked a motel in Burlington and is planning on heading back here on Saturday.  I haven't decided on whether I'll drive down to Toronto (Markham) early Sunday for the meeting or find a place there tomorrow night.  If the latter, we may cross paths.  The meeting in Markham is over before noon, so I'll be back mid afternoon.

Onward ...
